Beautiful setting and minis, nice game!

A great looking game, thanks for sharing! What scale are the ships you used, 1/2400?

All the above +1! Some of the models look to be 1/1800 scale from Warlord's Victory at Sea.

Great looking game! So how do you like the Nimitz rules?

Really nice looking game. I'm going to try Savo Island with Nimitz once I finish up my Minden refight which is currently on my table.

Thank you all for your kind comments – its appreciated.

Yes the minis are 1/1800 scale, most from Warlord but some – the large Japanese DDs and the New Orleans, are from XP Forge, sculpted by Ghukek, which are much cheaper even if you opt for the posh hi-quality resin, but look just as good IMHO.

Yes I absolutely love the Nimitz rules, but then again we at the Wollongong Wargamers were closely involved in their playtesting, so we got pretty much what we wanted!

Looks like a fun game. Could you explain how the rules work (roughly). Why do you like them over other quick play rules?
Thanks

Joe

Hi Joe! Well in typical Sam Mustafa style Sam has taken a long hard look at WW2 naval warfare, and, in terms of surface encounters, boiled them down to essentials. It typically took 10 minutes for a surface ship to start getting enough damaging hits on its target, and that's also about the same amount of time it took for meaningful changes in fleet dispositions relative to each other. Everything else falls out of that – you have 2 range bands – direct fire and plunging fire. 3 speed bands – slow, medium and fast, and these effect your big gun shooting and how easy you are to target. Penetration and armour is easily worked out using each ship's data card….I won't go on, after very lengthy playtesting its been stripped down to the bare essentials in a elegant and simple mechanism. But listen to the man himself on his podcast:

Thanks for the info. So it sounds like it is stripped down and elegant.

Thanks

Joe
