You were asked – TMP link

Is there a period of historical wargaming which you are on the brink of getting into?

In the final round of voting:

20% said "English Civil War"
15% said "American Revolution"
12% [TIE] said "1914 Western Front" OR "7 Years War"

I hadn't seen this poll, but would have voted ECW also.

(related to this, are Warlord's Epic ECW sets released)

I think the company could have instead issued their ECW first, or before the other Epic periods released……those periods already being well-represented ('saturated').

My local retailer won't carry the Epic ECW line now – likely too much ACW and Nappy Epic stock yet unsold.

Luckily, every time I think about ECW, I remind myself I don't have armies for ACW and I should do that instead.

Problem solved!

For me, the ECW may be the period that I'm most into. I have figures for it in 25mm & 15mm. I created a map of an imaginary shire, "Rumplestiltskinshire", for our mini-campaigns & I got my gaming groups in DFW, Galveston & San Antonio involved. I learned that when you're playing any civil war period a few players are willing to join in but will only play for 1 side or that they are eager to field a certain army (the ECW being a good example).

I always like the idea of ECW, but never found a way of using infantry that felt 'right' for the period!

Besides Colonials ECW and 30YW are top contenders. Always enjoy pike and shot. Even the later armies hold my interest ,ie Sedgemoor, 1689 Killicrankie etc.

I do know this: no matter what size tables you use, the guy who invented plastic tables has earned a warm place in my heart.
