…AI can already search through millions of pictures and analyse vast amounts of social media posts in order to identify and locate potential suspects. Drawing upon other kinds of data, it could also help predict the times and places where crime is most likely to occur. In particular cases, it could test hypotheses and filter out errors, allowing officers to focus on lines of inquiry most justified by the available evidence… The Guardian: link |

The article is actually quite sensible and points out the obvious issues with crime prediction (social profiling etc), but when it comes to data analysis, AI is pretty good. No Ed 205 quite yet, but perhaps something to help sift through masses of info. |

Well in many cases, they might as well. LE officers are given less and less leeway to make decisions in the field, so you might as well just upload a robot with the local ordinance/law books, and go for it. THey'd definitely be more "efficient" at it. But I suspect when they start hauling off big name politicians to the jails, their days would be numbered…. But as the old adage says…those who give away freedom for security, deserve neither. |

Who programs the AI and what is their agenda? Who watches the watchers, not that they do it now. The fiction written warning of such a scenario should be enough to stop anyone from thinking this is a good idea. |

As an analysis tool, it would certainly be very helpful. Let's take it to robocop level. They would not be limited by human emotions (and losing control). They, most certainly, will be programmed for holding the suspect. They also better be heavily armored, because everyone will treat them as a road sign during deer season. I expect they would arrest the same dirtbags that are currently getting (or should be) arrested. |

Kids'll be tagging them with spray paint in no time (once they blind the optics. ;-) Eventually, the AI cops will learn new (old?) behavior: AI Cop: "Oops, my bodycam recording unit just malfunctioned." (starts beating suspect with baton) "Scream all you want, punk, nobody will hear or see this." |

Yes, Robocop in San Francisco, and let me program him. Wolfhag |
