Rest in peace, Colonel Gail S. Halvorsen, U.S. World War II pilot. Following the war, Halvorsen was part of the air force tasked to drop food to starving German citizens. He went the extra mile by dropping candy to the children. For this, he was given the nickname "The Candy Bomber" and became world-famous. I met him and Capt. Robert Morgan of the Memphis Belle on the same day. Both gone now. Nice men. 🫡 |

I wrote an article about the Candy Bombers for the museum newsletter many years ago. Great story. I wrote a script about the Berlin Airlift for our Cold War wing. |
