Who do people think make the best Wehrmacht Gebirgsjager in 20mm in metal or plastic? I know it is relatively easy to convert late war grenadiers by filing the peak of their caps down a bit and painting gaiters as puttees but who does good figures with their role-specific equipment like rucksacks and climbing gear? Any ideas?

I always liked the FAA range myself.

Never come across FAA before but they look good. Thanks.

No worries. The original sculptor did an incredible job. He passed on unfortunately

Well, it seems a worthy legacy.

There are of course two different kinds of Gebirgsjäger. The ones in summer clothes who fought in the Low Countries and France in 1940 and in Russia in the summer of 1941 can be converted from Afrika Korps figures etc. and there are even Gebirgsjäger plastic sets such as Airfix and Zvedza.

The ones in winter clothing who fought in Norway in 1940 require bespoke figure ranges. SHQ and Shell Hole Scenics make these figures and both look pretty good if you ask me.

I also expect that NicolasRC – who specializes in the Norwegian campaign – will soonish delight 3D printer owners with a set of printable mountain troops.

…there are even Gebirgsjäger plastic sets such as Airfix and Zvedza.

Actually, besides Airfix, the other set is by Caesar and has the added benefit of some troops in heavier clothing, if that is desired. A detriment for some may be that 1/3 of the Caesar troops depict the 13 Waffen-Gebirgs-Division der SS Handschar, whose uniforms are not the same as the rest.

It is possible to convert your own, using plastic figures and green stuff.
