Who is your favorite actor or actress for playing gunfighters in movies?

I'll open the nominations with the Lees, hard call between these two for my fave:

* Lee Van Cleef
* Lee Marvin

Nominate just your persona favoritest please, let's not list everyone from IMdB/Wikipedia. Let those who don't join in the nominating wail about "Why wasn't so and so included?"

Honorable mention for Val Kilmer in Tombstone. Only western he starred in but he nailed Doc Holliday.

I would vote for most everyone above, but would add a few that I remember fondly.

Dick Foran, Blazing Sixes
Warner Baxter, The Cisco Kid
Tom Mix, Destry Rides Again
William Boyd, Hop-Along Cassidy

Clint, has saved the genre from irrelevance twice.

Movies or TV is fine!

You know, it depends. If I had a little range war in the El Dorado country, John Wayne every time. He'd put together a team, and his team would win. But if I were dealing with a particular individual, and I needed one man to deal with him, I might wire Paladin, San Francisco, and send for Richard Boone.

John Wayne and Clint Eastwood.

Imagine a movie with both of them in it!!!

Leo Gordon– This guy was in many westerns and was usually the bad guy. Chances were good that he'd meet a violent end at the hands of the show's hero before the show was over.

"Thank God for typecasting," he said in 1997 as he received the Golden Boot award for his western screen work.

James Stewart and Gary Cooper for heroes.
And you really can't discuss Westerns without mentioning that splendid town drunk/henchman/villain Jack Elam!

IronMarshal24 Nov 2023 8:31 a.m. PST

Clint Eastwood and John Wayne, although the single best acting job may be Val Kilmer's Doc Holliday. The entire Tombstone cast was great and Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott make great western shooters too.
But it all starts with Eastwood and the Duke. The others stand on the shoulders of their greatness (paraphrasing Sir Isaac Newton).

95th Division02 Dec 2023 9:41 a.m. PST

Tough call, but I'd go with Clint Eastwood, James Arness, John Wayne and Henry Fonda.
