Years ago we played a lot of AWI. Now, 10 years+ i want to get back in to AWI and its special flavour. As far as i remember, we played using the Guns of Liberty, but i cant seem to find my old copy. So, my question is (and i hope you all want to to help me here): Which rules should we look for as we pick up where we left years ago? Is it still Gund of Liberty? Where can i get my hands on it?
Thanks for you thoughts

We've not played Guns of Liberty however we had a lot of fun with British Grenadier initially but have now moved on to Carnage and Glory 2 which we like a lot. We have a game scheduled early February that I'm really looking forward to.

Take a look at SARATOGA SOLDIERS, the AWI version of the Gettysburg Soldiers Rules. It is designed to be an introductory AWI game, and playtested by AWI reenactors.

I have used RF&F for years, but I still play GOL anytime someone else is running it. I like GOL a lot, I just prefer RF&F as a GM.

I also tried out the Little Wars TV rules Live Fee Or Die, and while I had some quibbles, it was a sound basis that I could work with if I wanted to. It's especially nice that it's only 4 pages long. A lot of the local gamers were attracted to it, I suspect partly because of it's brevity. It's worth reading the discussions and AARs on TMP; do a message title search for "Live Free or Die" to find them.

If my local gamers expressed a strong preference for any of those, I would switch to their preference. I like all three of these sets pretty well for the AWI.

Thank you all for your thoughts and ideas.
@viper911 Thanks for the offer, but we are doing 15mm at my club
@disasterWargamer: Any idea when 3rd edition is due?

DinOfBattle210 Jan 2023 6:54 a.m. PST

Hi Major,

3rd edition has been on the back burner while I finished Vauban's Wars, moved to new home, dealt with elder sick parents, not to mention work.

2023 should be a likely year for release, but also need a publisher. We shall see how it works out.

Thank you for your interest.

I've been waiting for this event myself.

It'll be nice to see it finally wrapped up.
