Apologies I'm on the 3 Day Waiting Game for ‘Clearance'

Your thoughts please as I cannot comment on the old post from last year.

I was dubious. Yet I've watched it 5 times!

From 1986 to 2022. I was enthralled.

Any criticisms of this film?

Sorry my Wifi is misbehaving badly!

I watched it when it released to streaming and I wasn't all that impressed. It was okay, but if I never see it again that's fine. I wasn't that impressed with the first movie so not liking this one wasn't a surprise for me.

I have watched Maverick several times. Loved it each time. Brought back so many memories from high school and first Top Gun.

I enjoyed it. It is a movie, not a documentary.

There are critical comments about every movie, aren't there?

I found it to be a good entertaining movie. Sometimes I just want a good old fashioned story and do not need a dark yet thoughtful discourse on human interaction. I am Ok with good guys win, bad guys lose, lots of stuff goes fast and goes boom. I have no per se dislike of "thoughtful discourse" but sometimes go fast, blow up stuff hits the spot.

It is probably worth mentioning that it was both a critical and commercial success.

I loved it. Wife loved it. Kids loved it. Great feel-good movie, just what we needed.

David Manley06 Jan 2023 11:30 a.m. PST

Watched it three times, the final scenes another three times (the joy of having the movie "on demand" on a long flight, and I've just 3D printed some Su-57s and F-18s to go with my Revell minikit Tomcats :D

Very much enjoyed it. I thought it was a great sequel, especially after so many years.

Mr Elmo06 Jan 2023 11:36 a.m. PST

I saw it in the theater with Little Elmo. Like the original it touched a hidden patriotic nerve that is part of the modern zeitgeist. Critics also could not complain that it didn't include LGBTQ elements.

I thought it was entirely predictable – and so good I watched it a second time in 4DX !!

Continually amazed people enjoyed this garbage dumpster fire. Maybe inwas just in a mood, but I thought it sucked worse than fire hose on a turtle.

Yeah, just that bad.

BattlerBritain06 Jan 2023 12:45 p.m. PST

I loved it, although I thought Top Gun was better.

The planes were the star and I loved the 'guest appearance' by the F-14 😍.

JMcCarroll06 Jan 2023 4:35 p.m. PST

Enjoyed it much! Did bring back good memories of the first movie.
Why did they wait 37 years for a sequel?

pzivh43 Supporting Member of TMP06 Jan 2023 4:39 p.m. PST

Enjoyed it very much. Can't say which was better, but they did a good job of weaving the old with the new, I think.

Fred Mills07 Jan 2023 6:56 a.m. PST

A great movie experience, with a fine mix of camp, action, romance, and humour. Pretty people. Pretty planes. And a Bond-esque storyline, as enjoyable as it was ridiculous. Good stuff.

Bertha38007 Jan 2023 4:06 p.m. PST

@JMcCarroll I wondered exactly the same. I was only very young when the original came out. But being a child of that era, it was ‘one of those films.'

"The making of Top Gun: Maverick probably took longer than the executives at Paramount Pictures wanted, but the studio has to be elated by the results. To date, according to The Numbers, the blockbuster has brought in $1.12 USD billion at the global box office, making it the biggest cinematic hit that the world has seen in 2022."

It proved massively entertaining but totally implausible.

The attack plan made no sense at all, it was conducted against a country with which the US was not at war (but see the casualties inflicted) and there are a dozen ways to achieve the result at far less risk. Ed Harris is right in the opening sequences when he says just that. The carrier crew are in shirtsleeves and sunshine, but, after a short flight the attack crosses the coast into snowscapes. A live shot down US pilot is worth his weight in gold politically and diplomatically, but what do the bad guys try to do instead of capture him?

But it was terrific escapist nonsense and I enjoyed it immensely, even when laughing out loud (fortunately at home)

An excellent cinematic experience, combining humor, romance, action, and camp well basket random, attractive individuals. And a plot as ludicrous as it was entertaining, à la James Bond. Excellent material.
