Gents, Just upgrading the look of some palm trees I have for 28mm gaming -
These tree models I've had for a long time, and their canopies came in an off-green color that's been fine, but decided to *pop* them a bit more with a dry-brush of yellow, and some lighter green on their stems and leaf centers.
Thought I'd post my progress – (and actually, so I could take a break from this boring task work here)……just a dozen more to go till I'm finished. |

That looks nice. When I built about 400 plastic palm trees in 2018, I felt I should have done this. It was easy enough to improve the trunks with paints and washes, and to make nice bases with pennies and ballast and tufts, but I just couldn't find the will to drybrush all those canopies, so I have cartoon fronds over nicely modeled trunks. You deserve a lot more credit than I do. |

I have just a fraction of those 400 PALM TREES! Just enough for a couple of game mats to use them with. |

I was trying to forest the entire area around Henderson Field, so 400 was just barely enough. |

Sounds fantastic! I try to get off with just a suggestion of 'difficult ground'….won't even call it jungle, but the 28s can fit well within the areas for easy game judgement.
Getting the palm trees spruced up here is for that "scenario in a box" effort……w/figs, terrain, rules all in one container, and ready to pull off the shelf for hosting (Bolt Action Burma the game I'm aiming to get these trees for, which I'm hoping to put on next month). |

It's amazing what a little drybrush will do. |

Rich, for sure! Until I started to dry-brush these, I had no idea there were little bumps and raised lines on the palm leaves (sculpts often hold more detailing – which a single base coat of paint is more than capable of obscuring to the eye). ;) |

Those look great, Dave! Now let's see some Marines clearing Japanese-held islands! V/R, Jack |

Really excellent work on those! And love your terrain mat! I sprayed all of mine with Testors spray then drybrushed. However, the paint flaked off pretty badly. I need to go back and just try the dry brush. |

Thanks for the inspiration! |

Jack, this game's in the rotation – hopefully for next month (will Chindits do)? :) Hayes, TY!…..btw, send me your trees, I'll need them too. :))) |

Those trees are looking nice, man! I dug my palm trees out to prep for an FFL game two days ago. I never did much more than put them on bases, so they need help….badly. Should be a good little busy project. |

Nuthin' beats Marines, but I'll suppose they'll have to do ;) V/R, Jack |

Never ceases to amaze me the difference that highlighting makes. Obvious for AFVs, equally for human figures or even horses, but foliage? That had never occurred to me and it surely did transform these trees, from toys to works of art. and he wears gloves. Wish I had done so today, after using all kinds of chemicals for DIY. Mrs F is jolly cross, with much "how many times do I have to tell you?" |

DH, you probably got tired of wearing those surgical gloves, eh! :))) I use them all the time now, especially when I spray paint, and while wearing a pull-over with long sleeves too (just takes suffering the skin breaking out once, to make the change stick). |
