… what shape mouthwash bottle should I get next? Not which brand. Not which flavor.
inlgames.com/3ships.htmMy response was I didn't care, since part of the fun of trashbashing is not knowing what you have until you have it. So, how often are your purchases influenced by utilization of packaging materials (boxes, bottles, clamshells, etc.) for wargaming (or other crafts, please specify) later on? What? Never… Never! Monthly Quarterly Annually Once in a Blue Moon While I don't drive decisions by that, per the above statement, I have to say OiaBM (or is that 1/BM?). All other things being equal (value, survivability, value/price, quantity, etc.) packaging has been a sixth-tier tiebreaker consideration in some decisions. |

I am influenced by foam inserts more than shapes of bottles. |

Not for wargaming models. But a long, long time ago in another galaxy, I used to build RC boats and airplanes out of bottles and other trash. It was incredibly fun to make fun of other RC modelers with their shiny expensive and elaborate models. But I'm tempted, there are some nice DIY plastic bottle models for fairy garden stuff out there. With a hot air gun, I could melt some twisted nurgly garden landscapes. Or a strange gigeresque bioship… Finally an opportunity to use the flambé that has been gathering dust in the kitchen drawer. For the finer stuff. There is potential!

Mouthwash bottle tops have been used as columns in buildings. Plastic packaging has been spray painted and used as sci fi generators and such. Tooth brush covers make excellent clear single person force fields. Spray paint caps can be spray painted and used as bunkers. Purchase decisions are rarely made based on the utility of the package, but the MRS knows to ask if I want this or that box / widget before tossing them. Mike Bunkermeister Creek |

I always purchased 'Dawn' dish deterg, or Wegmans' store brand, because their bottle caps have a flat top (as opposed to the 'dimpled' cap of their competitors). Finish the bottle, wash out the cap, put some double-stick tape on top, and you've got a great stand for painting 15mm figures. |

Either you have trained her well, or she thinks humoring your insanity is easier. Either way, well done sir. |

I use cylinder plastic containers to make round castle towers. I print an appropriate PDF cardboard design on full sheet label paper, peel, and apply. Still have to kitbash the tops, but it's do-able. There is one brand of juice drinks that use a scalloped border design on their bottle caps -- perfect for decorative stone pillar caps for Dwarves. I do similar modeling by wrapping an appropriate PDF design around an appropriate wooden dowel, applying the caps, top and bottom. I am always on the lookout for containers to adapt… My wife even asks if I can use stuff, before she trashes it. LOL! Cheers! |

I used to pay a little extra to get cookies in metal tins that I would store minis in. (Nowadays I mostly use more space-efficient storage boxes.) |
