…Rumors in Gen. George Washington's intelligence circles said that there were times when the prince was lackadaisical and lightly guarded. Washington saw the royal complacency as a means to trade for some of his men in jail. He wanted it so badly, he authorized a kidnapping operation to get the prince…

Interesting story, if a bit of an anti-climax.

Perhaps Hollywood needs to produce is version of the story. You know, courageous Americans soldiers and their beautiful patriot spy infiltrate British lines, to capture foppish British prince, only to be foiled at the last moment, when they have already penetrated the outer perimeter and are ready to break into the house, by the arrival of a large contingent of troops sent to bring the prince back to his ship so they can make a second attempt to sail south and relieve Lord Cornwallis. As a distraction, the patriots have floated mines down the Hudson, one of which hits a British ship damaging it, and the whole fleet is immobilized as they spend two days clearing all the mines. Just as they are preparing to sail, the news comes that Cornwallis has surrendered, so the Americans didn't get the prince, but they did bag Cornwallis and his lads.

Did I leave anything out?

In 1781 Fanning captured NC's governor. Tarleton tried to capture Jefferson. Not sure how targeting William Henry would have been any different.
