ACW fans,

With my gamin' partner Lance, we got our McPherson Ridge/Herbst Woods game onto the table this weekend –

Lance supplied the Iron Brigade figs, and part up Cutler's units (the 14th Brooklyn/84th NY, and the 95th NY). Part of the Iron Brigade seen here pushing down the ridge through the Herbst farm fields and woods.

The game played really well (you never know if the design's balance/unit arrival times are meshed well-enough for that fun, competitive quality being desired, until that first tabletop experience). The pic below shows Archer's Brigade after its foray up into the open woods, but then after it has withdrawn back towards the Run under pressure from the Iron Briagde.

I supplied the Rebs for Archer's Brigade and part on Davis' units, the 2nd and 42nd Miss. seen here sallying forth out of the railroad cut flanking the Chambersburg Pike.

The game design fit the small collection of 28s we've painted up so far, and we're hoping to get additional return on our effort by running it again in a couple of months!

Most the figs are Perry minis, and we used my modified ACW variant to the Muskets & Tomahawks V1 rules for play. The terrain mat my own digital rendering printed onto fleece.

I have been to this very spot over a dozen times, and there is an old rock quarry back past Willoughby Run where General Archer was captured. It is part of a cow pasture now. Thanks for sharing!

Your games always look great! Are your modifications to Muskets & Tomahawks V1 available for sharing?

Great looking game!

Guys, thank you all your thumbs up here!

Perris, it's not too clear on the bottom map picture, but the quarry is at the end of that pathway leading up towards the Run – only a graphical mat feature there (btw, the players didn't notice it as being anything during the game).

If Archer's command figure had made it that far, I would have mentioned the significance of the spot. Instead, he was withdrawn off the board along with the 13th AL at the far corner area during the game.

Big Red, on the ACW rules mod – I'm going to hold onto it just for our local use (but TY for being interested).

I don't like it.

Aw-shucks!, Stew. :)

(made my day)

Thank you too, Zeelow!

I sent the thread link here to Lance, so I imagine he's basking in the after-glow too…..as we speak. :)))

Great looking miniatures and scenery! And yes, I know I say that to all the modelers, but it's true!

Northern Rebel06 Dec 2022 11:39 a.m. PST

Most excellent!

FlyXwire06 Dec 2022 4:28 p.m. PST

Michael May, and Northern Rebel, thank you very much too!

I was thinking maybe there's some interest in seeing the scenario from the other side of the field – this is the Confederate game card.
