… Panther "Why is the K2 Black Panther the Most Expensive Tank on Earth? America enjoys the world's best geographical advantages. The United States dominates a vast, resource-rich continent – a continent populated by friendly neighbors, or at least non-threatening ones. The continent is flanked by two massive oceans – the Atlantic and the Pacific. These function as the world's biggest moats, separating America from all other great-power nations. No other country enjoys such geographic benefits. Indeed, many countries are threatened by their geography, rather than blessed with it. Take South Korea as an example.
South Korea sits on the bottom half of a peninsula. Sitting in the top half of the peninsula is South Korea's bitter rival – North Korea. Technically, North and South Korea are still at war; no peace treaty was ever signed to end the Korean War, even when hostilities ceased. To this day, North Korea keeps roughly 10,000 conventional artillery pieces trained on the South Korean capital, Seoul. North Korea's conventional weaponry has the capacity to inflict apocalyptic damage on South Korea. Similarly concerning, North Korea now has capable nuclear weapons…" link

It is supposed to be one of the best MBTs around. The ROKs know the North is still an enemy. Not just to them, the US, but the UN. We flew the UN flag at our FOB Warrior Base, on our Guard Posts, along with the US flag and some other locations the ROK flag too, etc. There war is not over … it is only a truce. Of course, "Peace Thru Strength", by having a strong ROK military with the US support and hopefully some of the UN. It may deter any real threat. I do think Un knows this, and he may talk tough, etc. But bottom line … he does not want to lose is criminal Communist doctorship gangster empire. Plus, he may get the first shoot, but after that – game over. And we don't have to use WMDs. |

I saw the new Germany "Panther" mounting a 130mm. She looks pretty good too. But I don't know they're production status. |

The K2 Panther has a unique round which can shoot over a mountain and guide itself to strike a target. "The Korean Smart Top-Attack Munition (KSTAM) is a fire-and-forget, top-attack anti-tank munition with an effective operating range of 2 - 8 km (1.2 - 5.0 mi), developed specifically for use with the K2. It is launched as a kinetic energy projectile, fired from the main gun in a high trajectory profile comparable to that of a mortar. Upon reaching its designated target area, a parachute deploys, giving on-board millimeter band radar, infrared and radiometer sensors time." |

Interesting. I won't be surprised to find that the new German tanks may surpass these in capabilities and cost. That is a very interesting top-attack weapon. Wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of FOG-M weaponry be used too, again, so direct laser designation is not required, but very long ranges can still be achieved. |

As tech evolves … many things just get deadlier … And in turn may require more maint./Log support ? |
