Nice looking game. Where did you get that game mat?

olicana23 Nov 2022 3:12 p.m. PST

It's not a mat. It's a championship grade billiard table baize. I managed to blag it free, via a company doctor, from the mill where it was made. It is 97% Marino wool, and it doesn't lose it's shape when stretched over hill shapes, even after weeks. The 7m x 2m length they delivered (with a fault I've never found) was worth something over £700.00 GBP 15 years ago. It's far too good a cloth for what I use it for – hell, it's better material than most of my suits. It does need respraying again (with rattle cans) to tone down the green a bit, an ongoing process and over the years I've used 30 cans plus now – it wears off but never permeates – it's as perfect green on the reverse as it always was.

This is exactly the colors I have been looking for. Base of green with a little yellow and tan added. But no one I have found makes it. I was pretty excited to see yours. I was going to order one immediately. Oh well.

The company that makes the cloth is called Hainsworth, then hang it up and spray it. Some brown first, then lots of yellow, lots and lots of yellow.

That is a great looking cloth. Nice game.

For old snooker baizes, contact a snooker hall and see if they'll sell you an old one when they recover the tables. It will be full of chalk (wash outside in a big bucket a few times) but I use the rougher reverse side to game on so 'upside down' you will not get the lines or D marks anyway. Snooker halls only throw them away, I think.
