This slap-chop method is coming in clutch in a number of different projects for me. Perfect technique for lightly geared rank and file minis like peasants – who really are revolting:
See the whole entry with the process explained here – with tons of pics to go along with it: link Are you slap chopping? |

Looks like a great process to get them done quickly, but not looking like you did. |

They look like awesome spectral/undead figures to me, which is a big compliment not criticism! Cooler, more unique than the green LotR undead army look everyone uses now. :-) |

Ya, I thought about "fixing" the faces by brightening them up but figured it approximated how they would appear under nothing but torch light. But is is an interesting idea to use this method for more spectral entities. I've done scores of ghosts with Contrast paints but primed them in the usual light grays and greys instead of black as is the recommendation. |

Nice figures, they look good. But the faces and hands seems to be "wrong". Today we are drilled to have "clean" faces and hands. So even if you got the skin parts correct, they look "special" today. |

Interesting to see a resurgence of this method with a new name. Back in the day I used it to finish several WHFB knight units in record time. I called it underlighting, or inks over underlighting. So now, we call it slap-chop. Skin, faces and hands I agree really benefit from a warmer palette. Even if doing the rest of the figure slap-chop, for skin, I suggest a more traditional block paint intervention, e.g., a heavy overbrush of flesh, then red-brown or light brown wash, and normal highlighting. |
