The Revolution was inevitable because of the actions of the British Parliament from 1763 onwards and the ham-handedness of their policies towards the colonies. If it had been handled better on the part of the British government, then perhaps the Revolution could have been avoided. |

No it was not inevitable. Had the British had better statesman in office, the whole mess could have been avoided. Had the "Olive Branch" proposal been used as a basis for giving each Colony representation in Parliament, direct election of Colonial Governors and given Colonial veto power over any new taxes. The Pro-Crown faction in Congress would have prevailed. Instead the King didn't read it and sent a Royal Percolation threating Congress with hanging. The dye was cast. Up to that point it was avoidable. |
