Colouring in the borders of the modern states is hardly an accurate representation of the facts. There's a difference between a presence, an incursion and invasion, never mind total occupation. Did Captain Cook invade Hawaii? Did Britain occupy Arizona or New Mexico? or Russia for that matter. As for "some sort of military presence in the territory — however transitory…" – well, let's just get the red ink out anyway. YouTube link |
