Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for books or websites (in the vein of kronoskaf) for the 1st and 2nd Coalition Wars. Particularly the Flanders, Rhine, and Italian campaigns (up until and including Suvorov). Things like Orders of Battle, uniform plates, entry level/popular level books. I found plenty of sites for the Napoleonic Wars but not much for the previous Revolutionary Wars. Thank you for your time! |

The 1799 campaign in Italy – Vol.s 1-4 has tons of that information you're looking for, OOBs, Uniform Plates, etc…. BUT they are VERY expensive for card backed books and the translation from the Italian is unbelieveably clunky looks like it's been done with a dictionary in hand plus a bit imagination to fill in. I am finding them VERY hard to read, also not keen on the very many potted biograpies of the participants or decriptions of the localities and their history which are rarely relevant to the story. Try and see them first before you buy. |

Not entry level/popular level, but maybe still relevant: the translations Professor Murray and I did of Clausewitz's histories of the 1796 and 1799 campaigns. "Napoleon's 1796 Italian Campaign" link This one includes a lot of detailed OOBs. "Napoleon Absent, Coalition Ascendant: The 1799 Campaign in Italy and Switzerland, Vol. 1" link "The Coalition Crumbles, Napoleon Returns: The 1799 Campaign in Italy and Switzerland, Vol. 2" link No OOBs in these – their much greater scope made it impractical – but tons of other info. Not exactly what you're looking for, but hopefully useful suggestions anyway. |

For the Flanders campaign I would recommend the following ‘The Duke of York's Flanders Campaign' by Steve Brown ‘Neither Up Nor Down. The British Army and the Flanders Campaign 1793-1795' by Philip Ball. Also recommend those mentioned by von Winterfeldt Nafziger also publishes a series of translated works ‘Wars of the French Revolution' |

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I ended up getting a few books from this thread. Now I just need to decide what setting I'd prefer:1st or 2nd coalition. Helion must have been reading my mind, as they just announced a wargaming guide to the 1st Coalition War. If its anything like their late 17th century guide, should be very helpful |
