All, As a very side project to my French Revolution wars games, I'm thinking of trying some naval actions. Are there any dead simple rule sets out there? |

I should add, ones that work solo. |

Take a look at "Form on the Admiral's Wake". It should fill the bill for solo play as well. IMO, one of the few "simple" AoS rule sets that actually work in a reasonable manner. B

The Osprey Fighting Sail rules are nice and simple. No rosters, all markers on table. Be sure to get the author's amendments (osprey site or board game geek, as they improve thing a lot) |

To echo Blutarksi, I'd say Form on the Admirals Wake would fit your criteria. It's card-driven, hex-based and the rules are one page back and front. It's my favorite age of sail ruleset. Not commercially available, the author sells the rules for an affordable price at HMGS East conventions. Another option is Far Distant Ships from David Manley. I haven't played them but own them and have played other sets from the same series of rules by the author. Available on Wargames Vault. |

On wargames Vault. It does not get much simpler than these, used in convention games quite often. link |

I don't know if he'd thank me for suggesting they're one brain cell rules, but John Armatys appears to have produced a number of 2-page sets if you want something dead simple yet flavourful: For What We Are About To Receive (square based), The Nelson Touch (hex based) and a One Hour Wargames age of sail set. |

Having said that, I can't find either of the first two now, so that's not very helpful. I think the OHW set came from a Neil Thomas tribute discussion group which has lots of variants. |
