Work in progress for the Duty Squadron. 18 figures from Hagen Miniaturen. Dismounted line chasseurs in a Dolman and some hussars with a nicely cast pelisse. Each will have a horse with the correct shabraque, but a few will have to do without a sabretache or a carbine. Dismounted cavalry we rarely see and these are great figures, as one would expect from this company. Sunny day and I could not be othered with all the spotlights;

You should try your hand at sculpting, your conversions are that good. |

Jeez, If you had seen the language that went into some of these. Some of my swearing was Gaelic accented Anglo-Saxon ( I seriously, repeatedly, did get into trouble with OR staff management back in the day), but these were a cinch compared with the Red Lancers. Now that was a bad week making the Dutch Lancers. I have still not found the one that I threw out the window. Thank God it was open at the time. Thanks for you response, but the real experts are the pro sculpters. I am but a voice crying out etc….you know the rest. The poor characters to the left have headdresses that would swamp them, but there are painting tricks to correct that. Most had shakos originally, but now colpacks with the plume shifted to the left and the flamme and flounders added, to the right. One is a trumpeter in campaign dress ( I was short of carbines remember and I have enough NCOs) |

Indeed, looking forward to seeing them finished, especially alongside the rest of the unit. |

Finally finished the dismounted Chasseurs a Cheval for the Garde Duty squadron, in the Waterloo Remodelled project. As before, these are simply wonderful Hagen Miniatures figures with much Greenstuff on their heads, plus some horses with the sheepskin now covered with the correct shabraque. Now for the Red Lancers!

Well so that is how good they look when painted. Simply outstanding. Liam they are so good that there are only two possibilities: either you have been lying to us all and these figures were in fact bought ready made without any sculpting by you (unlikely) or I was right the first time and you really do possess a sculptor's skill (much closer to the truth). Don't be shy or modest now. When are you releasing your range of 20mm Napoleonic figs? Painting is compelling as well. |

They are wonderful, and those with greenstuff added are of course unique. Fabulous detail in the painting too, just look at the sabretaches. |

they look impressive – your additional sculpting made them outstanding. |

Very grateful for the feedback gents. Even more grateful for any responses! My fault entirely, I did not think these merited opening a new thread. The result is that they have been largely unnoticed. When I posted the simple metal figures with a bit of Greenstuff they had 580 views. The painted figures have only added a few dozen more…… |

Great looking figures, thanks for sharing |

Must say thanks again. Posting a new thread has quickly generated interest and suddenly folk are now opening this as well. As for my modelling skills, let us see how the 40 Red Lancers (from 3rd Silesian Landwehr) work out. I started with some oldish and dried out Greenstuff. Hopeless and soon gave up and dumped the residue. Since then 40 fringed epaulettes, czapka covers on 20. Tomorrow, 40 sets of aigulettes, then the sheepskin saddle, then the pointed tail shabraque, the lances, pennants, gauntlet gloves etc etc. Then the other 40 to do…….. The sabretaches are basically a bluff that works at 20mm scale but not magnified. An Aurore edge, a green centre, a white splodge, a red curtain over the top and sides, two red dots at the bottom edge, central dark brown spot with a gold centre, gold crown. From a distance it looks great. Close up, you will see is, "different";

You make it sound easy, it isn't. It takes time, patience, a keen eye and a steady hand. They're greatly magnified in these photos, and look pretty impressive to me. |
