Hi all, my Galatian army (275ish BC) has an option for a unit of Cappadocians or Paphlagonian spearmen. What, in your opinion, are the best 28mm mini's to use for these… I believe they came from what is modern day Turkey, but not sure. Cheers :) |

Livy says that the Cappadocian contingent at Magnesia the year before – quite possibly the very same men as the contingent that fought with the Galatians – were similarly armed to the Galatians themselves, so you want men equipped with long Celtic shields. I think the Newline figures mentioned do have such shields; otherwise, get figures in Persian dress but add Celtic shields to them. |

Thanks all, much appreciated. Good advice. I do have some spare Celtic shields floating about, so whatever way I go I'm covered :) |

For 28mm, I used the Newline Cap with Galatian (as suggested by 2 posters above). The Cap. cap is unique. From memory (I'm sure that GurKhan will correct me if I'm wrong) Duncan Head in his oop book on the earlier Persian Wars suggests that a helmet might be possible. That would allow you to use suitably dressed figures for variety, such as those in long-sleeved tunic and trousered figures (bearded) with a suitable (captured Greek?) helmet. |

the word missing after Galatian is "shield". |

Marcus they are nice. Unfortunately because of how they have chosen to structure it, Gripping Beast effectively have the most expensive postage to Australia of any gaming company in the world. Makes their products a non-starter for me. The Newline are a different story and are possible, though I'd have to swap out their swords for spears… |
