… 10mm Fantastic Battles "Captain Smithwicks rallied his militia and dished out a third serving of Hearthshire's finest travel-stew. The lads at the front of the unit were pre-occupied with the elven shieldwall bearing down on them but, sure, at least the rear ranks appreciated the sentiment…"

Why is this in Warhammer message board? |

Legend of Doom, its probably similar to Warmaster, and since there is no Warmaster board, then the Warhammer board is the closest match. Have you ever heard of Warmaster (its a 10mm version of Warhammer), its kind of seeing a big resurgence since people can play the old game with free rules and inexpensive 3d printed ( yes 3d printed 10mm miniatures that look quite nice) or using inexpensive miniatures from various 10mm miniature manufacturers. New people can actually afford to play large armies of Warmaster for the price of one or 2 warhammer miniatures. You ought to expand your horizons. and it seems that Fantastic Battle by Irregular wars is a clone of Warmaster, or perhaps Warhammer, or it could be just its own game. There are other scales besides 28mm, I in particular have large 15mm armies, but nothing wrong with people playing with 10mm, or 1:72 to play a fantasy game with, and actually there are some advantages. Since GW has pushed so hard to make Warhammer the generic term, similar to how Kleenex it now the generic name for all facial tissue paper, just about any game similar to Warhammer belongs in the Warhammer forum. Games like One Page Rules, Kings of War, Oathmark ect belong in here also, Battlesystem, the game that GW plagerized, you know the game by Gary Gygax, it has its own forum, but since that now Warhammer is synonymous for all fantasy wargames, whether or not they are actually playing a game by GW, its belongs in here :) |

I'm intrigued how Warhammer plagiarized Battle system. Battle system was released in 1985, while the first edition of Warhammer was released in 1983 Albus, you do know that its possible to engage in discourse without being so patronising and condescending or rude. I appreciate that the nuance of language is often lost on these boards so I am prepared to accept that you may not intended to come across quite that way. You are aware that there are several Fantasy boards on TMP- perhaps. However, this one is called Warhammer, if you look at most of the other posts on this message board you might see that its composed of discussion about Warhammer themed issues rather than pretty much every other Fantasy rulset, that discussion usually happens in a place called "Fantasy Discussion" Anyway you may respond as you see fit, however, I have better things to do than have a silly argument . Enjoy |

Sorry, sorry, My mistake,I mis-spoke. It wasn't Battlesystem that they plagiarized, it was Chainmail that they plagiarized. Battlesystem is the end result of where chainmail ended up after TSR updated Chainmail thru a couple of iterations. Chainmail was first published in the 1970's, in 1976 tsr published, Swords and spells, which as poorly written and not very playable. It was later rewritten as Battlesystem, Games Workshop was basically a game store that sold games, think monopoly type games in Great Britain ( as I understand it), when Dungeons and Dragons came out, they were one of the main distributors on the small island across the pond. they make a lot of money selling D&D and they copied the ideas and made a better version of Chainmail, which TSR had kind of left by the wayside. Chainmail is the game GW originally plagiarized, ( possibly with TSR's initial blessing) but it was just a clone of Chainmail, by Gygaz and Perren, placed in a "world" and it became quite popular. Hmm.. Maybe due to the increased interest in Warmaster, they should start a Warmaster message board? |
