This is quite interesting. I think many of us will have used a periscope to view our tables from a soldier's perspective, but this takes it to another level: YouTube link |

Would be interesting to try with a battlefield as a tank commander – or perhaps a field commander in an earlier time |

Very interesting! I've done USAF aircraft simulators I wrecked a pier trying to dock a Coast Guard cutter on a simulator, but I've never been involved with a tank simulator. Grelber |

Cool. Like an analogue VR experience. This makes the tank simulators from the late 1980s look positively modern! |

Dang. We're going to Switzerland at Christmas, but they're closed. |

We had similar simulators at Ft Knox in 1988 |

Does the female volunteer instructor have a mustache???? |

The RAF Harrier sims at Gutersloh used the same technology only with a much bigger model. I think they actually modelled a specific area of Germany that they expected to fly over. The model was in 1/300 scale and was pretty huge. It took up a small hangar and used Heroics models iirc. It gave a very accurate view, so much so they also used it for artillery spotter training. The only problem for the Harrier pilots were spiders 🙄. Instructors would suddenly wonder why a pupil had veered off course only to see the pupil chasing a gigantic spider across the model. |

"Does the female volunteer instructor have a mustache????" {facepalm} You've never seen a nerd with a ponytail before? Clearly, you have not spent time in IT … |

Does the female volunteer instructor have a mustache I am more concerned by the grossly overweight gentleman in uniform with the number 42 (!) on his left chest. Not exactly Swiss Guard. Nerdy Wargamer and Douglas Adams afficinado? Anyway, he should ride his MO-12 to work more often. |

??? Umm, museum volunteer? Not exactly a lot of PT requirements for them. |
Arjuna | 20 Oct 2022 3:21 a.m. PST |
??? Just a joke of mine. The MO-12 is the newest Swiss Military Ordonance bicycle introduced 2012. Oddly enough the autistic military nerds over at topwar.ru have a good article about Swiss Army Bicycles/"Militärvelos" link Perhaps they were planning a bike tour in eastern and even middle Europe in 2017, after so many Russian soldiers were lost on home leave in Crimea in 2014. Russians are always very attached to their vacation spots, often you even can't get rid of them. |
