" The science behind why you need a hobby to boost your brain health and self-esteem" link What is interesting is the idea " we should view a hobby as a form of leisure, even self-care, with a focus on doing something that brings joy or relaxation without guilt." I wonder where "painting miniatures is a chore" starts ruining the hobby benefits. |

Wargaming is a multi-faceted hobby if the painting miniatures part is a chore don't do that part. I like all the parts. |

My time at the paint table is therapy for my ADHD and PTSD. While painting I have no worries except getting that perfect shade of French Napoleonic blue right. That and my gaming friends are my closest friends. |

No doubt that hobbies bring a sense of wellness for me. Definitely a way for me to reduce stress, increase peace and joy, feel positive, and provide opportunities for social connection as well. As for "painting being a chore", if that happens, then I go slower, don't expect myself to do too much, switch things up and paint something else, do a different aspect of the hobby and come back to painting another time. Those kinds of choices keep me moving forward, and seem to keep the health benefits moving along too. |

I think FusilierDan has a point. If painting is something you just flat don't enjoy, pay someone to do it. More often, it becomes a chore for some reason--castings (or uniforms) you dislike, or too much painting to get to the other stuff. I'd say try small armies of casting you like, and talk to people about ways to crank out a decent-looking--not great--force with minimal painting time. Or there are some very nice paper soldiers these days. |

That is why I have multiple hobbies. If one thing bores me, I switch to another one. Or combine them. Nothing better than being bored by Tolkien's Silmarillion as audiobook while removing flash from soft plastics. |
