Wondering if anybody else noticed a noticeable drop in sales during September? I have less than a year in my current business plan so I don't have any historical data to go. I will not mention my business as that is not the point nor polite.

Thoughts?

Sales in my eBay store were great last month, very slow so far this month. Then again, it can depend on what I have available. Though the audio books usually stay consistent. They have been slow for a couple months now.

I had two shows during September and did well. My eBay sales were not as robust as during the Summer, but I also arguably had fewer "highly desirable" and high dollar items.

The first two weeks of September are a big slump across many industries. Kids are going back to school, people are getting into their Fall rhythm, etc. Many decades in the hospitality industry taught me that, unless your venue can tie into football games, post-Labor Day the brakes hit hard. Obviously this is US specific. Note also that retail shoots their bolt with back to school shopping and gradually bounces back as holiday spending ramps up.

Sales dropped y to y from 9/01 to eom.

Looking for a better Oct.

Yeah, sales down here, too.

They've been spotty since late Summer, so just maybe this evidence of effects of the economy?

Thank you all for your replies, sorry that others had a down month.

@enfant perdus I think hit it on the head. I had forgotten that from my retail hobby shop days.

As a long ago game retail store owner you will see ups and downs in the business. As mentioned above this is a time of year when folks change habits with back to school being a dominant factor. Another thing that we experienced was a drop off in every Presidential election year. Something my Mom told me would happen and I didn't believe her, but it was true over our 18 years in business.

Use your slower times to get ready for the busy ones, do your neglected cleaning, organizing and preparation of marketing plans, events, restocks and such. You will be happy you did.

Not noticeably.

I won't get the consolidated sales figures for a few days yet, but August was up a fair bit on last year (and way up on 2020 – Covid and all that).

How well you are doing rather depends what business you are in – hedge funds are dong nicely shorting Sterling, and oil and gas producers are making a mint on the back of Putins war, but neither of this is my game.

Our businesses were way down in August but up everywhere in September. EBay was about the same as it is every month for us.
