putin is threatening to use tac nukes in ukraine on front line troops ,but now that he has annexed that territory into russia would he now nuke russian territory/citizens, what does his separatist allies who live in this area response to this be? |

Let's hope and pray not, it would start WWIII very easily |

He threatens to use tac nukes, but that is just an intimidation tactic to force Ukraine to either concede territory, or to freeze the conflict where it is. He knows any use of nukes will elicit a response from the US & NATO. And as soon as NATO intervenes, the war is over in Ukraine. Damon. |

@Garand David Petraus seems to agree |

What's the old VC tactic; grab the enemy by the belt. That said, hopefully, it is just a bluff. Failing that, also hopefully, his staff is ready to take the necessary steps to prevent it. |

Putin is trying to use the North Korea tactic of threatening to use nukes to get what he wants. |

Personally, I am wondering if maybe the US should call his bluff. Declare a no-fly zone over Ukraine, & shoot down any Russian aircraft that goes airbore. Also suppress air defenses as needed for the mission. Right now we live in a world where, if someone has nuclear weapons, they can use those weapons to blackmail the rest of the world to do their bidding. This is a bad example for countries like North Korea & Iran. But if we call the bluff, then we would demonstrate that having nuclear weapons alone does not make you safe from military retaliation. That would send a positive message to Iran & North Korea. Although it also could backfire, that's true… Damon. |

Sure, set off a nuke or two over there, and that will contaminate a lot of farm land. Ukraine would never be able to export their wheat ever again (and a lot of countries depend on it.) This isn't a game of poker, but a lot of stupid people in power are playing the situation like one, without regard for the high stakes involved… |

call his bluff Putin is a lousy Poker player. He knows, this game has grown much to big for him. He didn't wanted it that way. So, don't go into his game. Stay calm, stay firm, stay united, don't blink. Do not threaten, do not show fear. Just tell him you will react, don't tell him how. He has to deescalate. He will deescalate, over time. And that parasitic worm will also wriggle out of his own domstestic political pile of he put into his hole Russia. |

As I said on another thread … Saw Ret. 4 Star Army GEN Jack Kean on the news. Said that much of Putin's talk is just saber rattling for local consumption. But again, when it comes to nukes, he said we have to take it seriously. But don't overreact … He also said, IF Russia used nukes in Ukraine. The US[maybe some others in NATO?] would retaliate with non-nuke missiles, air strikes and drones. And wipe out everything the Russians have in the Ukraine. That makes sense … Would Putin be stupid enough to attack NATO ? I doubt that would happen. What GEN Kean says is usually correct. There is one Ret. Army COL[forget him name?] that I see in the media. Almost Everything he says turns out to be wrong or off the mark. Some … ? GEN Kean is the one I listen to … |

GEN Kean is the one I listen to … I've taken notice of RET Gen Petraeus. It seems he has been pretty on the mark about things too, so I think he bears more attention as well. EDIT: Possible breakthrough in the South as well: link Damon. |

+1 Zephyr. It's nice to see everyone follow the mind readers. Nobody really knows what Putin will/won't do or who will/won't follow him. Hopefully nothing comes of it but if some big bombs start falling hopefully we get a "Gee, I was wrong." Knowing NATO would start up why waste the shot on a small tac, why not hit something substantial? |

Personally I am not in favor of diving into this war neither protection or attacking I agree, no reason to. The Ukraine seems to be doing a good job with NATO support of weapons, intel, etc. |
