Not series. What's the best one off book. (Maybe two book at most)

pretty much anything by Dan Abnett. I never really liked any others.

Space Marine by Ian Watson was a pretty good one-off.

The first book of the Inquisitor trilogy, sometimes published as Draco also by Ian Watson, was great, the next two grew less great.

I second Wackmole9's selection. Dan Abnett was their best author!

I read The Inwisition series years ago and really liked it. Especially book one as pointed out.

Oh, for me, it's pretty hard to say which book is my favorite because I've not read many of them because I don't have much free time. But First and Only by Dan Abnett is a good one. In a month, I have a deadline for one paper, and I'm writing it about Black Library, so I need to read at least one more book to be able to write something great. I'm a little bit worried about the context of the paper because with grammar, I'll get the help of and it will for sure make my paper quality and without mistakes. And that's why I want to dedicate attention to the context because I want to write something catchy and not boring.
