Being very grateful for the response I got on the Paris archers, I now have another question.

Is there an online source I can use that will tell me what troops (ideally, which regiment) were stationed in Mauritius (Isle de France) in the 1770s?

Thanks,
John

The colonial regiment(s) stationned in Isle-de-France in the Mascareignes (not to be mixed with namesakes metropolitan province of Paris and regiment of Isle de France) is simply the Regiment de l'Ile-de-France raised officially the 18th august 1772 and de facto throughout 1773 with the Regiment de Port Louis

for lack of recruits this last one (with also the Ile Bourbon Regiment/today La Réunion) was disbanded in january 1775 and these corps in garrison in Mascareignes were merged in the single 4-Battalions Regiment de l'Isle-de-France

Thanks very much. I'll start directing my search instead of flailing about in the dark :~)

John
