"In the year 1810, the Napoleonic troops occupy almost all of Spain and stand for the first time in front of the magnificent fortifications of Badajoz, which, together with Cádiz, remain graceful in facing them. After overcoming the Spanish troops that tried to block their way in the mountains of the south of the province, the advance guards of the French army, commanded by Marshal Mortier, began on February 10 to deploy around the city to proceed with its siege. The garrison is greatly diminished, but they know that if they are able to hinder the enemy's actions for a few days, the relief troops will arrive, although they face an army of about 9,000 men, with about 1,000 cavalrymen…"
