We've been visited by a few trolls lately, of the type that somehow make money out of promoting other websites.
Sometimes, they will establish themselves first by making bland comments on existing topics – I say bland, because they usually say something very general because they don't know anything about the hobby.
They often do this on older topics, rather than current ones.
Then they will eventually make the post they get paid for – promoting some website that sells term papers or legal advice or best recipes.
If you see something like this, please hit the Complaint button and let us know, so we can remove it and track down any other posts they may have made. You can usually recognize troll posts of this kind because they are promoting some website and have nothing to do with the discussion at hand.
And speaking of posts that are off topic… Sometimes we get complaints about a forum topic which has gone off topic. In general, if a discussion goes off on a tangent, we let it go. If we tried to keep gamers 'on topic', we'd go crazy.
The exception to this, of course, is when a discussion goes in a direction which is against forum rules – such as when someone makes a political comment in a wargaming discussion, and then we get a political tangent. We will intervene to enforce forum rules against current politics, or other forum rules (see the FAQ).
There is also the situation where someone posts to an existing topic, usually an older topic, and adds something which has nothing to do with the topic. Just something out of left field, like posting about Long John Silver on a topic about software piracy. Such posts, if wargame-related, belong on their own topics, not tucked at the end of some older topic.
If you see such a 'misplaced' post, hit the Complaint button, and we'll consider deleting it.
