Of the stuff you haven't kept, what would you say is your average interval between "gotta get this new army/rules/terrain" and "Sell this stuff in the flea market to make room for new stuff?"

Myself, I'm thinking maybe five years.

I have sold off very little. Usually it's when I move to a larger scale in the same period.

A very, very, long time – you never know when you'll need it and it would be incredibly irritating to have to buy it again.

Four decades and counting?

If I didn't paint it and haven't seen it in a few years let alone played with it, it gets sold …. which of course then means a new rule set comes out for the period. ; )

What do you mean sell ?

Titchmonster12 Sep 2022 4:24 p.m. PST

5-7 years unless a project simply dies.

I bought Spanish Civil War figures in the 90s, getting the last of them around 2000. About 2017, I realized I hadn't gotten them out or painted any of them since 1999. After two years of thinking about the issue, I sold the unpainted figures off in 2019.
Somehow, I could never bring myself to paint more than half a dozen of the Bull Dancer Bronze Age Greek figures I bought back in the early 90s, and finally, after much thought, I sold the unpainted figures off in 2014. I promptly replaced them with Foundry Mycenaeans, who weren't going anywhere, either, until the past month.

Never. I recently painted miniatures I bought in the 90s and thought I would never paint. Some of these figures I thought would be incompatible with newer ones but with thoughtful painting and basing they worked very well. I realize that my lead mountain keeps giving me little treasures even decades after I thought I would never paint them.

Rarely. I don't sell much stuff, only if I've not played with it for years ans unlikely to in the future.

Sell?

What is this Sell of which you speak?

+1 Legionarius – I've also just painted some stuff that's been waiting for decades. It's time had finally come to go from pristine to devalued by a bad paint job evil grin

A bit longer an interval. My two major divestments were in the early 2000s and mid-2010s, and involved stuff acquired in the late 1980s to mid-1990s.

As I mentioned in the related discussion, found objects for kitbashing get purged every couple of years.

mildbill14 Sep 2022 6:36 a.m. PST

If you sell it and then rebuy it, the paint job on the new figures will be better!

The Last Conformist20 Sep 2022 12:44 p.m. PST

Almost all the stuff I've gotten rid of was acquired in the late 1990s and sold around 2005, so about seven years.

(Though I didn't sell it to make room for new stuff but to raise money, so depending on how literally we're supposed to take the OP's wording it may not count.)
