What are your favorite games DESIGNED to be played one player? (I'm posting this as much for ideas as anything else, since I haven't tried any yet) |

Waterloo Solitaire by Mike Wylie, Original Bookgames, 2021. One to avoid, IMHO, is Battles of the English Civil War by Mike Lambo, 2022, because the 'armies' are far too small and pikemen and musketeers act independently as separate units. |

Field Commander Napoleon from Dan Verssen. True solitaire system, play every coalition as a solo board campaign. When there is contact between armies, I set up 6mm armies and fight the battle using One Hour Wargames rules and Nic Burt's Adjutant Introuvable to run the AI for one side. |

Warfighter by Dan Verssen Games. Although heavily card driven, I've made 1/35 scale figures, mostly special forces, to move around. It plays out like a story scripted for a weekly TV series! It can get a little pricey if you want all of the extras. And there are a lot! I finally had to stop after the core, the footlocker, and maybe 7 or 8 supplements! Oh, and I just had to get the Mercenaries Core game… I did get the core game cheap as a hobby shop was dumping it out at half price. And I got a lot of great play with just that core box. They have come out with a WW2 version that looks good. And the rulebook is now "Universal", covering all periods. My weekly group enjoys playing it when there are only 2 or 3 of us. |

Well, they're not solitaire-only. Most "solo" play for these can also be done as a team of collaborators against the game. Surprisingly, they're all scifi … Brain Freeze link – Dodge the zeds and drive an ice cream truck! Haywire link – Wrest control of the ship from the malfunctioning bots! Perilous Planet link – Gilligan's Island in spaaaaaaaaace! |

Update: I got 414 Syracuse. It's a great game! Doesn't take long, dramatic, historical. Highly recommend. I followed up w/ Quebec. Same system, but not nearly as good. |
