I'm going to be using DBN rules with 15mm figures as I will mostly be playing solo but also want to have a basing that can be used elsewhere in other games if I find people playing them. As you may have guessed I am new to 15mm and basing multiple figures on a single base.

I've decided on the following:

---
Line Infantry: 40x30mm basing (8 figures in 2 ranks of 4)

Light Infantry:40x30 (6 figures in 2 ranks of 3)

Jaegers/Skirmishers: 40x30 (3 figures in one rank, staggered)

Cavalry: 40x30 (4 figures in 1 rank)

Light Cavalry: 40x30 (3 figures in 1 rank)

Skirmishing Cavalry: 40x30 (2 figures in one rank, staggered)

Artillery: 40x40 (4 figures plus gun)
---

This seems like it's a common basing that will work for a variety of games: DBN, FoG, LaSalle, March Attack, and others. My dilemma though is since DBN uses a single stand, I'm confused about how I should base some things. In particular British infantry, as they have two flags. Would this mean that my first rank would be just the command, and the 2nd row be the regular troops? That is, would it be something like:

1st rank: Officer, King's Colours, Regiment Colours, Drummer/Sergeant
2nd rank: 1 Flank (Grenadier), 2x Center, 1 Flank (Light)

How are others organizing their bases for this? I get it doesn't quite matter for DBN due to abstraction but I'd like for some consistency to use if I look at playing other games sometime in the future. It only seems to be an issue where there are two flags (so early Austrian as well?).

Thanks,

Wayne

Looks like you have pretty well got it right.

I would suggest one change.

Light Infantry operating in close order should be identical to Line Infantry.

Light Infantry operating as skirmishers would then be the same as Jaegers/Skirmishers.

Also Line Infantry need not have colours/command figures on every base.

I suppose if I didn't have colours on every base for DBN, I'd just add them later when there are multiple bases per unit in other rules.

Thanks,

Wayne

Have you looked at the gallery of the DBN site? This should be helpful.

Sounds about right,

I think you'll struggle to get 4 cavalry figures on a base that size but you might manage it – let me know how you get on!!

I base my infantry like you, 8 to a base – so I base 24 figures across 3 bases for other rulesets which gives me 3 DBN units.. and so on

Cavalry is 4x bases per unit on other rulesets, which gives me 4x DBN cavalry units. Artillery batteries are 3 cannon for other rules, which gives me 3 artillery units for DBN

Sounds like you have the right idea
