"The "Bonnie Blue Flag" was one of the early unofficial flags of the Confederate Union and a well-known marching song was named after it. The lyrics to the song were written by Harry McCarthy on January 9, 1861, after the state of Mississippi seceded from the Union that day. On this date, Mississippi raised a blue flag with the single white star as a sign of separation from the Union…"
