… tank battle "Winning the biggest tank battle in history – against Nazi Germany at Kursk in 1943 – remains a great source of pride for Russians.
So it is not surprising that Russian officials have lashed out at Western historians for questioning the Red Army's mastery of the battlefield. For decades Russians have seen no reason to doubt Soviet military historians, who portrayed the Battle of Prokhorovka on 12 July 1943 as a turning-point, where the Red Army seized the initiative, then rolled back the Nazi armour…" Main page

A picture there has this caption: Soviet troops going into battle at Kursk with T-34s But the tanks in the photo are T-34/85s, which I don't think were in service yet in the summer of 1943. |

From what I could gather online it appears that you are correct in that the T-34/85's were not used at Kursk. |

The 85mm ones did not become common until 1944 and the 76.2mm ones remained the most commonly seen even so IIRC. |

As to the biggest tank battle in history I thought it had been pretty much been settled that was the Battle of Brody (aka Battle for Dubno) 23-30 June 1941 was bigger. |

The initial model T-34/85 did not start coming out until late 1943 and full scale production did not really start until around April 1944. I see this all the time with either photos or sometimes documentaries where tanks that were not in that time period or theater are plugged in. |

I thought it had been pretty much been settled that was the Battle of Brody Conveniently forgotten since the Russians were decimated not only by action and leadership but by mechanical failure. |
