He's one of two heroes of Shiloh. He continually turned the Confederate left flank on the second day, prying them from their positions. With minimal casualties because he would not engage in frontal assaults. The other hero is Peabody. |

Yes, he was a better general than people realized. After Monocacy, I think he was briefly relieved of his command until Grant realized what he had accomplished. |
