Hello folks

I've just arrived in WA and all my gear is currently in transit from the UK. Unfortunately our movers werent willing to ship my trusty bottle of Johnsons Klear so i'm bereft of the main ingredient for my magic wash recipe.

As far as I know Klear isn't available in Aus so can any kind souls out there recommend a local substitute as my google fu seems to have deserted me on this occasion?

Regards

Tonic

Welcome to the Great Southern land, but why you chose to be a sandgroper I don't know….. :)
If you ever pop up to Darwin come say hello.

Not sure if this helps:

I think its Pledge cleaner here, here's a US vid on it, but not sure if the specific type he mentions is available anymore.

Never used a "magic wash" so I may be barking up the wrong tree but Woolworths sell Pledge Gentle Wood Floor Cleaner 500ml $ 6.40. I think? this could be what you are seeking.

EEk! Ignore my suggestion above. A little bit of googling has me quite confused now, it may not be so easy.

Pledge has discontinued this product! Aw, SNAP! Wal-Mart, in the USA, still has it on their catalog, even though it was discontinued in January 2022: Pledge Floor Gloss. Essentially, the Magic Wash technique relies upon a clear, acrylic medium. It works, as Magic Wash, by adding an acrylic paint (tint) to the medium, at a low density, creating a lightly colored wash.

There is a similar product, Rejuvenate, which is polyurethane based, and clear! This would make it a clear version of the Minwax polyurethane stains used for The Dip Technique. It is the same concept, only it uses polyurethane, instead of acrylic medium. To be honest, I might have to try the Rejuvenate. I am a huge fan of The Dip Technique; my favorite color is Royal Walnut but my local stores no longer carry that color (hate to mail order it). Their Antique Walnut is OK, but not as dark. Never been a fan of Tudor (Black), sorry. You could try adding acrylic paint to Rejuvenate (if it is water based -- not sure, as they say it requires 45 minutes to dry, before you walk upon it, when used on a floor!), or else use an oil-based paint, to tint it. This stuff sells for around $10 USD for 473 mL/16 oz. It is low priced enough I can afford to experiment with it…

If all else fails, visit a local art supply store, and ask for a bottle of acrylic medium (more expensive than Pledge Floor Gloss, but basically the same product). Tint, as per Pledge Floor Gloss, and experiment, until you get it right. You might want to visit a Dollar Store and buy some Tan Army Men figures, as Magic Wash Dummies to experiment on… Cheers!
