There is another thread going that wondered which ancients tourneys in the NE US were the largest, and it got me thinking. Back in the ancient "before times" HMGS(E) cons always sported quite large WRG Ancients tourneys. These have since been supplanted at HMGS(E) cons by Flames of War and several other smaller tourney events. I always sort of figured that when the Historicon diaspora happened, the WRG crew took their event elsewhere. I'm beginning to wonder about that now. Whither WRG? |

Jacob Kovel, proprietor of Silver Eagle Wargames – silvereaglewargames.com – is on of the Four Horsemen Enterprises that, AFAIK, acquired the rights from Mr. Barker (or WRG ?) and produced Warrior as, effectively, WRG 8th (If I've gotten anything wrong here, many apologies.) |

JAFD26 You are probably much more accurate than I am I don't think Warrior is WRG Warrior Ancient and Medieval Rules A Four Horsemen Enterprises Rules Set WRG would be DBA (De Bellis Antiquitatis Version 3.0) or DBMM (De Bellis Magistrorum Militum Version 2.1) |

Warrior is definitely 7th edition with expanded diagrams, more concise and understandable language and some improvements. |

WRG is a company dating from the 1969. Mostly from Phil Barker, it produced a series of Ancient-Medieval rules, commonly known as WRG Ancients from Edition 1 to Edition 7. The latter was left behind by Phil as he turned to DBA and DBMM. The 7 Edition was bought by some American gamers and then as noted by Marcus Brutus. WRG continues to produce as noted by drago6. WRG-- War-games Research Group – also published other rules for Horse and Musket, WW2. and modern by Phil. It also produced assorted army lists and historical guides. A very prolific company link There are, by the way, many large ancients tournaments around the country. |
