It completes a trilogy of books he has written on the Ottoman and Turkish armies in the early twentieth century covering the Balkan Wars, WW1 and now the Turkish War of Independence, often called the Greek-Turkish War.

Unlike the other excellent recent study of the conflict, Salvation and Catastrophe: The Greek-Turkish War, 1919-1922, this is a military history of the campaigns against the Greek invasion and the other lesser-known campaigns of the war. Independence??????????????????

Independent from the Greeks and other powers who threatened to dismember not just the Ottoman Empire but Turkey itself, France, Armenia, Britain and Turkish factions who opposed the Turkish nationalists.

If it wasn't for Russia imploding because of their revolution, it is quite possible that Turkey would have been subsumed into other countries such as Russia, France, Britain, Armenia and Greece.

I have started painting up some Greeks and Turks to fight these conflicts.
