Hi –
Our current project is a catalog (done in the style of an old Sears catalog) of Victorian Sci-Fi Space Equipment. We're looking for reviewers for an early draft of the 'Space Weapons' chapter. Would you be interested in reviewing?
Thanks – Arun

What is the purpose of the review?

arodrig615 Aug 2022 7:55 p.m. PST

79thPA – we're looking for feedback on the contents, presentation, and, of course, the weapons themselves. Do they look interesting? What is missing? etc…

Just looking at the two pictures, they don't look
Victorian Sci-Fi. There is no polished wood and brass,
two things that stand out in Victorian Sci-Fi. The two
Weapons in the pictures look too futuristic. For example,
the scope in the top picture looks too modern. It should
be longer and more ornate (polished brass or even steel).

My two cents for what it is worth.

Wildman – Thanks. Those are good points.
I think some of it is that the B&W doesn't really show the shininess. The final book will have a B&W 'catalog' section and a color section going in to more depth and with game rules. They don't use a lot of wood due to thermal and outgassing issues in vacuum.
But, you're right, they certainly could be more ornate. I'll work on that.

Would you be interested in reviewing the chapter text?

I honestly think you're on slightly the wrong track with the items depicted. These look more like 1930s, Buck Rogers'y, items.

I'm not a steam punker, but I suspect there must be loads of VSF weapon images to use as inspiration.

One suggested example from the Good Omens miniseries would be the Thundergun of Witchfinder Lt. "Get Them Before They Get You" Dalrymple.

FWIW

Sorry I didn't get to sooner, I wasn't on the computer
yesterday. I would be interested in reviewing the chapter
text if you want me to. Not sure how you would want to contact
me. I can provide an email address if that works.
Please let me know.
