Can anyone explain the why and how on over-painting ACW flags please? I've seen the term but not been able to find that much out about this.Thanks.

Where did you encounter this term?

I am not familiar with the term.

Do you mean simply painting over the existing design? I've done that with flags I had printed from various books, etc., so that it doesn't look so…printed. But with the Flag Dude and similar sources, purchased flags look so good there's no longer a reason to.

I know on some original flags they would paint a device on one side. That would often partially bleed through and they would then paint over where it had bled through to create a reverse image on the opposite side. Is this what you're referring to?

16 days since the question was posed, but no response to the replies.

It was a very vaguely posed question. I almost said carelessly.

I hope the original source of this thread is still following it. To say thanks and clarify what is being sought.

Thanks for everyone's responses(except that from deadhead).I have been looking for where I have seen this and now can't find. I think its probably reference to as described by mjkerner. When I do I will come back to you.

I've seen some original colors that had the regimental number painted over so the color could be reissued.
