…Multiple social media videos showed explosions and clouds emerging from the Saky military base in Novofedorivka on the western coast of Crimea on Tuesday afternoon, prompting questions about how a location more than 100 miles (160km) from the frontline could have been attacked. Later a senior Ukrainian official appeared to claim responsibility, without giving details… The Guardian: link |

This is getting a lot of publicity because the airbase is adjacent to tourist beaches, so many Russian vacationers witnessed the explosions. Denys Davidov: youtu.be/-4Jw-cSDyYg |

Wonder what the tourists are thinking of that, since there is "no war" currently underway in the region? What will the cover story be: - natural gas line ruptures; - terrorist attack; - space alien attack; - or other? |

Keep in mind that a minimum of hundreds of people were killed in the attack. There's also video of blocks of apartment buildings (5-7 stories tall) with all of the facing windows blown out. That means flying glass through homes, so many, many injuries. Glass is brutal to eyes. Does that mean that this is a Ukrainian war crime? No! But we should keep some perspective on everything that's happening. We don't know how many people live(d) in those apartment buildings who didn't support the war or Putin. "They deserved it" doesn't apply. Anyhow, video showed the Kerch Straits bridge leaving Crimea absolutely jammed with traffic, while the other side was very light and zipping along at maximum speed. Given the panic among beach-goers shown in other videos, I'm not surprised. The Kerch Straits bridge itself is where Google Maps turns on traffic data. It's 1am there, so the bridge seems to be flowing just fine. |

They blew it up themselves as a sign of good will? --- Ceterum censeo… Stop them in Ukraine, send more heavy weapons. The more dead ruzzian soldiers pile up there, the better. And a new Lada for every ruzzian father! YouTube link |

Where did you get this info??? Do you have a link? If hundreds of people were killed in this strike, it would have been in the press. |

Probably the Ukrainian Sapsan missile. Like a Iskander made in the Ukraine. Good work. I hope lots of Russian air force personell does. |

Interesting the Russians are more willing to say this is incompetence rather than say Ukrainians could cause such massive damage in full view of the public. There are videos circulating that show many charred, uniformed bodies. |
Druzhina | 10 Aug 2022 5:25 a.m. PST |
Sapsan is the launcher, "Grim" was the prototype missile (aka Grom), but it was not GPS guided. They didn't admit that the Ukrainians sank the Moskva either, preferring the incompetence story.

Does anyone know if there were any chemical or biological weapons stored there? Probably no one but the Russians would know that. |

Interesting the Russians are more willing to say this is incompetence rather than say Ukrainians could cause such massive damage in full view of the public. The Russians are on record threatening overwhelming retaliation for any strikes in Crimea, so it may be in their self-interest to downplay this. Same from the Ukrainians. |

The Russians have a huge problem on their hands that run deep through society. It is their constant lying, lying about everything. Everyone knows they are lying but play along. Take this airbase strike. Russia says it was an accident. Everyone knows it is a lie but play along. Since it was "an accident" it is no problem that air defence did not detect the missiles or tried to shoot it down. So there is no problem with the capabilities of the AD… Every one then knows that the AD Is not working but you cannot say it, as it did not "fail" as there was no enemy strike. So it is impossible to tweak or fix the AD as there is no failure in it. Then the AD officers are fired for failing to stop the attack, which was an accident… but the AD officers are punished anyway as every one knows it was an attack and no accident but no one can say it. So they are punished for not doing their job when the incident was, officialy, an accident… Complete |

emckinney | 10 Aug 2022 9:22 a.m. PST |
The "1 dead, 14 injured" is a combination of bodies so blown apart that they can't be found and covering up the number of injuries. This was a daytime attack. Plenty of people working at an airbase. |

Well, Somebody made a Hell of a Mess! I don't buy 'just munitions going up'! Military Target… fine. Given the 'dispersal' and protection… will have needed a pretty well targeted, (Sat or Drone?), heavy Barrage…or a ground force penetration/painting op. But… there will be dead guys there. Way of things. |
