After Joseph Beyrle and other prisoners of war bribed a German guard with 10 packs of cigarettes to allow them to escape, they boarded a train supposedly headed to Poland.

The train actually was destined for Berlin…

Pensions? Not even pension. Trust me, Frederick: when you get into that situation, both sets of paymasters look at you with--well, as close to human sympathy as a paymaster can get--and tell you the other guy is the one who owes you the money.

I say this with 25 good years--11 Air Guard; 14 regular Army--and not a dime of pension. One can only imagine what happens when you've got two alphabets involved.
