In a moment of madness I decided to take inventory of my lead pile! It seemed like a good idea at the time. This time I counted the larger figures and not just 6mm and smaller. The things I found were an interesting trawl back through five decades of buying toy soldiers and then doing very little with some of them!

Great post. I thought of inventorying my collection but after a few minuets decided it was going to be overwhelming and opted out. Looking forward to your next post on the subject though.

I did an inventory of unpainted figures back in the '90s, and ended up totally depressed, so I've never done that again.

I do keep track of how many figures I buy each month, and how many I paint, so I do have some clue as to where I stand (in a rather deep hole, thank you!). I have made an effort to sell off things I realize I will never, ever get around to painting, like the Etruscans or Carthaginians.

Best of luck with your unpainted collection!

A good entry and a good blog! Thank you for posting.
Like you I did the same thing a little over two years ago, when I was moving. Didn't do a cataloguing of all the figures, but just a basic of count of figures in size, and genre…
I stopped at approx. 6,200….
Since then I've had Bone IV, and V KS arrive, and VI will be here in two years, and some more packs have found their way into my home, (I honestly don't know how), so I would that the number of figures is probably closer to 7K or a little above it now.

You are a far braver man than I.

I'm currently at around the 2,000 mark but that includes very small scale stuff like 3mm O8 cold war vehicles and H&R 5mm infantry. Could be worse.

Late in the last century, I bought 50 small plastic boxes (6x4x5). All my unpainted figures fit in them. I created a listing of projects on the painting table as well as the contents of each box.

I've kept it up over the years and it really helps in deciding what moves up to the painting table next. Over the years a few projects were cancelled and sold off only to be replaced with new projects.

The next post is on my blog and details the actual movement of lead across my painting table in the last month. Buffalo Bill Cody stars.
