Does anyone have recommendations for a ruleset for fighting Age of Sail battles like the Nile or the Glorious First of June in about 12-18 hours? |

I've gamed the large naval battles, to include the Nile, for the age of sail with Form on the Admiral's Wake. It's based off of a boardgame and is card-driven and hex-based. Big battles take about 4 hours, so substantially less time than you are looking for. They are available from the author who hosts games at the big HMGS East cons. The rules come with dozens of scenarios. I'm not affiliated with the game designer, just a fan of the rules. |

12-18 hours?? I'm assuming then you're looking for something where the details of what's happening in each ship is high? for that you could try Post Caption. very good game but I wouldn't want to control more than 4 ships. here's a review I wrote years ago: link Another good contestant but on the lighter side is Blood Bilge and Iron Balls. link I don't have fleets in my collection (yet!) I got 12 (6 British and 6 French) so tend to focus on squads. but I'm guessing that in a multiple player game that's what most people are playing anyway. I DO like Form on Admirals Wake. needs hexes but plays very fun. Can be hard to get a hold of though. but one can control a LOT of ships easily. If using hexes I also really like Bloody Broadsides (on Wargame vault). same thing, one could control a squad pretty easily. hope that helps. But not sure that anu I mentioned would play up to 12 hours. especially the Nile, where one side doesn't even move.. :) |

12-18 hours!?! Do you mean real time to play the game or the actual battle? For large AoS battles my recommendations would be: Fighting Sail (Osprey rules) Fire as She Bears – available on Wargames Vault – also has a signaling system. Kiss Me Hardy – Too Fat Lardies David Manley's rules noted above as well. |

Also suggesting Far Distant Ships from David Manley For more detailed course of action you can also use Form Line of Battle from same author. As for others, then for my taste It's Warm Work – too simple Kiss me Hardy – too detailed Osprey rules – too inaccurate |

Has anyone here tried Signal Close Action by Rod Langton, especially its fast play variant? |
