One of the games played at this month's meeting of the DWG was a fictional 19th century clash, Action at West Humbel, part of the fictitious Battle of Dorking, written in the wake of the Franco-Prussian War that would cause yet another invasion scare in Britain that would echo through to the dark days of 1940.

If you would like to see how Sir Harry Flashman and others helped repulse the Prussian invaders then just follow the link to the club blog.

Smashing account – good for old Harry! Saved the day again, backhanded, no doubt.

First read about The Battle of Dorking in Michael Moorcock's anthology Before Armageddon.

Jolly good show chaps! The Prussians don't like when you stick it up 'em as my dear old Serjeant major used to say.

Hi Chaps,
Thanks for your comments and glad you enjoyed the read.
Poor old Von Carter and Von Huntsman certainly got their marching orders when they found dear old Flashy in attendance!

Dorking and the River Mole/Box Hill location is very familiar to me as I went to school locally and is an area I know very well.

Cheers
JJ
