Made a small detour on a recent road trip north of Sydney to visit this modest sized but very good museum. Lots more images on the blog Australian Army Infantry Museum

I never knew that museum was there. I'll visit next time I'm in town. Looks great.

WG, did they have the cutaway Vickers on display? It's a basic Vickers with the breach, barrel shroud and receiver group cut away to show the working parts. The one we had in the old Moorebank Area SGT Mess was given to the ICM when the mess was closed, and hopefully they found room to display it.

WG, there's corps museums right across Australia- most of which are unknown to the general public and not really advertised (see link ). Most arms corps units also have museums, but public access to them is obviously very limited.

Yes they do, they have a showcase with a number of cutaways and training weapons and the Vickers is one of them.

I actually prefer the smaller museums. We have a great military museum at the Fremantle Artillery Barracks if you ever make it over here.

Thanks for the write up.
I'm a volunteer at the Army Museum of South Australia located in an active army base, Keswick Barracks just a few minutes drive from the city centre, worth a look when you're visiting Adelaide S.A.

TP, excellent. Thanks, mate.

WB, some of the regimental museums are very good and the UK ones can be excellent (see KSLI photo below). Not all have one, though. 8/12 MDM REGT had a small display case in the entrance to RHQ when they were in Holsworthy, but that was it. 2/4 RAR had rooms with captured equipment, uniform items and old pam's and photo's, but it was rarely open, even to BN members. I didn't know about the ARTY BKS, though I don't know when I will be in the West again to see it. I thought Fremantle was pure pussers? :-)

Dal, that's a link to their website. There's some great pictures in the gallery section.

Thanks, Blue. I'm glad they've been able to get the vehicles and guns they did, as they always impress the visitors. The volunteers have done some nice workon the indoor dispays as well.

I wonder if I can squeeze in a couple of days on my way back from Europe next year? If She Is Obeyed concurs, of course.
