Profoundly disturbing to read that our image of "Gallant Little Finland" might need some rethinking. Every country had its extremists and homicidal maniacs, but Finland still emerges with some honour, well at home anyway. My understanding is that Jews in Finland were not persecuted and, indeed, many served in their armed forces throughout WWII. Ukraine comes out far worse in this account as well, but I hesitate to mention that these days. Hopefully the world has changed since 1939-45 |
