I'm such a sucker. I get an email stating: "Your order is on the way" but it only means "A shipping label has been created." The package may not actually be shipped for days afterward. Aargh! Okay, I'm done. |

Could you elaborate on your problem? I ship lots of packages and when I print a postage label it usually has the date posted on the label. So I only print postage labels on the days that I can take my packages to the Post Office. Once the label is printed (within the PayPal world via Shipstation) I believe that the customer is sent a notification by email I would imagine that most companies do the same thing. |

I'm with you Schogun. I think a lot of more custom places create the label when they print the order. Happened last time Ibought some 3D printed stuff. Took 10 days to ship, 3 to get to me…. |

Jim, If you printed labels throughout the week as you packaged orders, but only went to the post office on Saturday mornings to mail them, we would be griping about you! 😆 The label you printed on Monday would generate the "Your Order Is On The Way" email, but it wouldn't actually enter the postal system until Saturday, creating a five-day tracking "black hole." And no, not all companies do as you do. I wish they did. |

Has happened to me several times here lately. Am still waiting on a DVD I ordered in April and is still awaiting entry into the USPS system. Have tracking number- no movement. |

"Your package is on the way" means they admit receiving your order. Only the package on your doorstep actually has meaning, though I'll admit sometimes watching the package bounce through several states can be grimly amusing. (A recent book purchase passed from Pennsylvania to Ohio to Michigan, back to Ohio and then back to a different USPS confinement facility in Michigan before being delivered in Indiana. Amazon was offering me a refund I hadn't asked for yet.) And a certain mail-order book shop which promises your purchase will make a Better World prints labels with great abandon, but ships no more than twice a week if that. They took up selling under an assumed name once too many of us caught on. |

I've seen it as well. There usually is a tracking number that you can get emails from. In my own case, I print the shipping label as soon as I receive payment, pack the next day and have to the post office before lunch. Even when they check it in, it sometimes takes several hours before it show up in the system. BTW I also love to watch the package going thru the system. |

Just because your "shipment is on the way" means nothing when it gets "delivered" 60 miles away by the USPS, and you get a "delivery confirmation" from them to your address. Watching that "delivery" is a horror show. |

A number of companies do this when they ship USPS. The label is printed. Takes days to enter tracking. When I get the USPS priority mail tracking, the package usually arrives the next day but sometimes arrives before I get the tracking. Drives me nuts at times. |

@ Shogun, I thought that your post was directed towards companies in the war gaming hobby. I hadn't even considered things like eBay and Amazon so I can see your point. :) |

I just had this happen with Catalyst games. I ordered an item back in February and got a notice it was on the way. I was so busy at the time that I forgot all about it and realized last week I never got it. Looked up the order and it still says ‘On the way, it might take a day for the item to appear in the tracking system.' Well, it has been a few months now. I inquired and haven't heard back yet. Will keep bugging them. |

Gentlemen All! Bless your hearts, but I don't see anyone using USPS home pickup, thus avoiding that weekly--if not daily--hump to the P.O. Using the USPS Website, I buy all my postage (at a small discount), electronically fill out Customs Forms on their page, print the postage label (with receipt for my records), and set a free pickup date (so far, always the next business day), leave the package(s) out on the porch, and Bob's My Uncle! I send everything by Priority Mail for reliable, traceable Domestic delivery within three to four days, max, but when some Overseas Customers prefer to take the risk, I use First Class Parcel Post. In over fifteen years with this regime, I've had ONE--count it!--ONE US Customer screwed when his postman delivered the package to the wrong address and whoever got it liked what he found. I refilled the order, and it was once more misdelivered and traced to the same address, but "vanished." I ended up sending a THIRD refill to an altogether new address at the suggestion of the customer, and he did receive it three days later. I'm not gloating (the doctors say it's bad for my kidneys), but what's the reluctance to use the USPS Website and simplify business life? TVAG Okay, my kidneys are hurting, so maybe I was gloating…. |

Unfortunately, "A shipping label has been created" is a system generated entry. This could mean, we printed the label and put it on the parcel and then had it picked up or dropped off at the post or UPS, but it hasn't been scanned by them yet. Seems to be a delay lately with that first scan once they haev the parcel by the post. Weird because sometimes my postal carrier scans it as he gets in the truck. Other times it never appears for a day or two when scanned at the depo. So don't think it is the vendor as it is more than likely the carrier. |

My (least) favourite was an order from a Chinese seller. It didn't arrive on time, despite an "on the way" notice. The tracker said that the order had been cancelled by the company. At that point I was able to claim back the postage, but had to wait another month before I could claim back the full purchase price. They had my money for 6 weeks for nothing ! |
