I have a jar of Tamiya Purple X-16 that is the perfect color for a project I am doing. Except it needs to be metallic. How to I make this regular paint into a metallic paint? Mike Bunkermeister Creek Bunker Talk blog |

Mix it with silver? I've done that before. |

Put a layer of chrome,or silver, let it dry over paint with a thinned coat of Tamiya Purple X-16 (doesn't that sound like a science fiction movie)? Or perhaps add some very fine glitter to Tamiya Purple X-16? |

Vallejo makes a Metal Medium (70.521). On the side it says: "A water based acrylic formula. Can be used alone, giving a transparent silvery effect, or mixed with color 50% resulting in a paler metallic shade. Also used for highlights." Yes, I have a bottle, but no, I haven't tried it out. Grelber |

I don't think I'd use the Vallejo medium with Tamiya paints, they are not really water based acrylics |

Royal Air Force, do you mean Vallejo medium is not an acrylic? Or is Tamiya not an acrylic? Inquiring minds want to know |

Tamiya is a solvent-based acrylic rather than water-based. It may not play well with water-based mediums like Vallejo |
